Edgewood believes Tesla's manufacturing and end-to-end system design capabilities can extend beyond electric vehicles into embodied AI products. Robotaxi is viewed as the first physical AI application, combining Tesla's vehicle fleet, real-world data and software assets to create an autonomous ride-hailing platform. The same training, manufacturing and operating capabilities could support Optimus humanoid robots and other physical AI products. Edgewood argues that consensus estimates only partially credit robotaxi and largely exclude Optimus and other prospective applications, creating optionality if Tesla executes.
