GCQ Flagship PIE Fund on Grab Holdings Limited

Thesis

GCQ initiated a small position in Grab, which it describes as the ‘Uber of Southeast Asia’. The fund sees lower exposure to autonomous-vehicle disruption because Southeast Asia’s low labour costs reduce the economic incentive for rapid AV substitution. Grab had also underperformed Uber year-to-date, creating an opportunity after relative share-price weakness. The position fits GCQ’s broader preference for network-effect businesses whose competitive advantages strengthen as their user ecosystems scale.

Grab is less exposed to any risk of disruption by Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) due to Southeast Asia’s low labour costs but has underperformed Uber in the year-to-date.
