Meditation Capital Management LP on Klaviyo
Thesis
Meditation Capital sees Klaviyo as the dominant retention-marketing platform for Shopify ecommerce merchants, with tracking indicating more than 50% share among Shopify Plus brands. Its moat rests on superior email deliverability, deep Shopify ecosystem integrations, a large agency network, high switching costs, customer data and a product that customers consistently praise; the fund conducted 35 ecosystem calls in 2026 and found near-unanimously positive product feedback despite Klaviyo charging a substantial premium to rivals. The fund argues AI will be more an opportunity than a threat: the platform remains essential for data, workflow and message execution, while AI-powered products such as Composer, Customer Agent and Klaviyo Personalization can automate marketing decisions, improve targeting and create new monetization opportunities. Even if consumer agents make customers harder to reach, brands may need more effective direct messaging rather than abandoning email or SMS. Klaviyo is also tightly integrated with Shopify's growth, offering exposure to ecommerce expansion at a far lower valuation than Shopify itself. Meditation expects approximately 26% revenue growth in 2026 and 22% in 2027 without including incremental AI revenues. At 3.0 times estimated 2027 revenue, it views the multiple as unusually low for the quality and growth potential and sees scope for the shares to appreciate 2-3 times from the letter's prevailing price.
“We think Klaviyo will continue growing strongly, trade to a higher multiple, and has the potential to 2-3x from today’s price.”
Key risks
- AI-enabled customer self-building could displace marketing software, although the fund views email deliverability and complex third-party integrations as prohibitive obstacles.
- Incumbent and new AI-enabled competitors could close the product gap and trigger a pricing war, particularly given Klaviyo's substantial price premium.
- Shopify could meaningfully improve Shopify Messaging and compete more directly with Klaviyo despite their current economic and strategic alignment.
- Consumer agents may shift purchasing and communication behavior, weakening email engagement, retention-marketing effectiveness and customer demand.
