Sands Capital Management, LLC - Global Growth on Bloom Energy
Thesis
Bloom Energy supplies fuel-cell systems that can provide onsite power to AI data centers facing grid and turbine constraints. Oracle's New Mexico site is expected to deploy about 2.4 gigawatts of Bloom capacity, more than the company's cumulative historical installations, and management indicated that additional large projects are being discussed. Customers appear willing to pay a premium for faster time to power, modular deployment, cleaner emissions, minimal water use, high uptime, and native direct-current output. Sands sees a potentially large data-center opportunity, although cost competitiveness versus gas turbines remains the central debate.
“As adoption increases, cost competitiveness remains the key debate, but recent announcements suggest Bloom is gaining traction in AI data center power.”
