Weitz Partners III Opportunity Fund on Netflix, Inc.
Thesis
Weitz initiated Netflix despite near-term concerns that its attempted Warner Bros. acquisition signaled stagnation in the streaming business. The fund believes the ad-supported tier extends Netflix's growth runway by opening the company to the large global advertising market and broadening the addressable customer base with a lower-priced offering. At the same time, the cheaper ad tier can reinforce the pricing power of the premium ad-free tier.
“we are optimistic that Netflix’s introduction of an ad-supported tier is a savvy strategy to extend its growth runway”
Key risks
