Baron Partners Fund on Guidewire Software, Inc.

Thesis

Guidewire's multi-year transition from on-premise software to the cloud is now substantially complete, removing a major historical overhang. A landmark ten-year agreement with Liberty Mutual could accelerate adoption among other large Tier 1 insurers. Baron believes Guidewire can capture 30% to 50% of a $15 billion to $30 billion addressable market and ultimately generate margins above 40%. The core insurance-system opportunity alone could represent nearly $20 billion of recurring revenue, while AI should expand the functionality layered on top of Guidewire's system of record. Recent deal slippage was viewed as timing rather than demand deterioration, with the delayed transactions subsequently closing.

We think the core-system opportunity alone represents nearly $20 billion of annual recurring revenue, or roughly 20 times Guidewire's current size.
